PM REPORT :: NOVA SCHIN FESTIVAL ON HOLD FOR WEDNESDAY
WARD AND STEDMAN TAKE THE MONEY IN THE FOSTER’S EXPRESSION SESSION
(Scroll down for Portuguese)
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 02 November, 2005 : - - With a side shore wind howling through the competition site at Joaquina, Florianopolis, Brazil, organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong have decided to place the event on hold for the remainder of the day.
When they meet again tomorrow at 6.30am local time, it is hoped that the swell will have built and the wind will be coming from a more favourable direction, as has been predicted. The 10th event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour will then continue on with the remaining four heats of round one and then head into round two.
The remaining heats of round one include:
Heat 13 Daniel Wills (AUS) vs Luke Stedman (AUS) vs Tom Curren (USA) Heat 14 Fred Patacchia (HAW) vs Greg Emslie (ZAF) vs Bernado Pigmeu (BRA) Heat 15 Tom Whitaker (AUS) vs Raoni Monteiro (BRA) vs Guilherme Herdy (BRA) Heat 16 Peterson Rosa (BRA) vs Kirk Flintoff (AUS) vs Renan Rocha (BRA)

Earlier today Chris Ward (USA) and Luke Stedman (AUS) took the prizes for biggest aerial and best overall wave respectively in the Foster’s Expression Session.
In the one-hour format where surfers are encouraged to push the limits and attempt futuristic manoeuvres in the hunt for cash prizes, Ward took the biggest “air” with a huge and very difficult frontside aerial with a no-handed rotation. Stedman claimed the best wave with a longer ride where he pulled off two very powerful backside gouges.

AM REPORT :: MIDDAY CALL AT JOAQUINA FOR NOVA SCHIN FESTIVAL, BRAZIL
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 02 November, 2005 : - - Organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong in Brazil have placed the remaining four heats of round one on hold until 12 midday and will look to complete them and perhaps the Foster’s Expression Session in the improving conditions predicted for later today.
After a fantastic day of surfing yesterday at Imbituba, two hours drive south of the home base, the 10th event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour will look to pick up where it left off and will also look to take advantage of the huge crowd expected due to it being a public holiday here today.
With swell predicted to build over the next few days, organisers are hopeful that the business end of the event will take place in waves of up to two metres (four to six feet) and with the swell direction being favourable for Joaquina, a fun left breaking wave, all will be treated to more of the incredible high performance wave riding that “the dream tour” is renowned for.
Also keeping everyone hanging on the edge of their seats is the showdown for the 2005 Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour crown between Kelly Slater (USA) and Andy Irons (HAW) and the potential for the crown to be decided here.
The remaining heats of round one include:
Heat 13 Daniel Wills (AUS) vs Luke Stedman (AUS) vs Tom Curren (USA) Heat 14 Fred Patacchia (HAW) vs Greg Emslie (ZAF) vs Bernado Pigmeu (BRA) Heat 15 Tom Whitaker (AUS) vs Raoni Monteiro (BRA) vs Guilherme Herdy (BRA) Heat 16 Peterson Rosa (BRA) vs Kirk Flintoff (AUS) vs Renan Rocha (BRA)
The Foster’s Expression Sessions are an integral part of each event allowing surfers to push the limits as they are not restricted by conventional judging systems. They are encouraged to be creative and are not penalised for falling. The session will last for approximately one hour.
