SIZEABLE SWELL ON THE HORIZON FOR ROXY PRO HAWAII

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 November, 2005 : - - A significant swell slated to arrive tomorrow and build into Thursday has prompted event officials to put the Roxy Pro Hawaii on hold again today. The one to three foot (1 meter) conditions that were on offer at Ali’i Beach Park in Halewia this morning are predicted to increase in size to six to eight feet (2 to 2.5 meters) by tomorrow afternoon, and peak at almost double that on Thursday.

Though the Roxy Pro Hawaii can be run in its entirety in just two days, the event is being held in tandem with the Op Pro Hawaii, a six-star prime men’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) event that requires roughly four days of surfing to complete.  Both events are the first of three in the Vans Triple Crown of Surf series. The ensuing events include the men and women’s O'Neill World Cup of Surfing held at Sunset from November 25 to December 6, followed by the women’s Billabong Pro Maui and men’s Rip Curl Pipeline Masters running December 8-20.

For more details on the Vans Triple Crown visit www.triplecrownofsurfing.com.

A 7am call will be made again tomorrow morning and officials are expected to initiate competition. Log onto www.aspworldtour.com and www.roxy.com/roxypro to see which contest will run!

NO ROXY PRO HAWAII ACTION TO UNFOLD TODAY (Monday).

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 November, 2005 : - - Flat seas have again seized Ali’i Beach Park, Haleiwa, home of the 11th Annual Roxy Pro Hawaii, and another lay day has been called. With roughly a week and a half left in the event waiting period and the North Shore’s first sizeable winter swell predicted to hit during the latter portion of this week, event officials are confident that competitors will enjoy first-rate waves once we do get underway.

First to fare the waves once they arrive will be young Hawaiian trialists Bethany Hamilton, Carissa Moore, Tory Titcomb and Chastity Baltazar.  The winner of the trials heat will go straight into round one of the main event where she’ll meet reigning world champion and current ratings leader Sofia Mulanovich (PER) and Australian surfer Serena Brooke in heat three.

As one of the final two stops on the women’s World Championship Tour (WCT), points earned here and then in Maui are of the utmost importance to women sitting low on the WCT ratings. Without a solid performance on the Hawaiian leg or a qualifying result on the second tier tour, the World Qualifying Series (WQS), a surfer could find herself forced to renegotiate the WQS next year to get back on the WCT the year after.

Make sure you check www.aspworldtour.com and www.roxy.com/roxypro daily to keep up to date on the event status.

DAY OFF IN PARADISE FOR ROXY PRO HAWAII

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 November, 2005 : - - The Roxy Pro Hawaii, the second to last stop on the 2005 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, will not run today.  Early morning conditions at the contest site of Ali'i Beach Park, Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu were too small to adequately showcase the talent of the world’s best women surfers today.

Because the short-range forecast shows strong promise of much bigger surf in the near future, event officials will wait to send the girls out until optimal conditions materialize. With 11 days left in the waiting period, and just two days necessary to run the event in its entirety, the opportunity for the women of the World Championship Tour (WCT) to score solid waves before November 23 is highly likely.

If the winner of Roxy Pro Hawaii, the first stop of the women’s Triple Crown of Surfing, fares well in the subsequent O’Neill World Cup of Surfing Sunset Challenge and Billabong Pro Maui, she’ll find herself in strong contention for the Triple Crown title and the bonus $10,000 on offer.
