Balin Pro is off with Gunnamatta beach in one of its' very few flat moments! 

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 January, 2006 : - - It was an extremely rare moment at Gunnamatta Beach this morning with Australasia's top pro junior male and female surfers looking over the rugged ocean beach and not being able to see a ridable wave - It was flat and when Gunnamatta is flat the entire Victorian Coastline is just about unsurfable. 

Gunnamatta is an open beachbreak that cops the full brunt of any Bass Strait swell, which is why it is such a notoriously renowned beach that is more likely to be too big and wild than too small! Accompanying the gale force hot northerly winds and scorching 40 degree temperatures is a surfless coastline! 

You can count the flat days at Gunnamatta Beach in a year probably on one had so everyone is optimistic, that despite the heat wave continuing, waves will appear tomorrow and Sunday and the event organizers have even called the Balin Girls back later this afternoon to check conditions to see if a few heats might be surfed this later in the day, but that is unlikely. 

While the girls are yet to surf a heat, the boys are well into the event with most of the top seeds progressing through yesterdays round three - Julian Wilson, Matt Wilkinson, Laurie Towner have all advanced and when the event does resume, most likely at 6:30am tomorrow morning the action will be non stop through a long day tomorrow and a shorter final day on Sunday. 

Forecasts indicate a slight swell to filter in, offshore wins and heat wave to continue so it's all positive for a great finish to the event!
