Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 January, 2006 : - - The Brazilian Team won the Seventh Edition of the Panamerican Surfing Games, Reef Championship, Motorola Cup, adding the fourth “verde amarela” victory of the seven Games realized. Anyway, it was Peru the country that won more categories, three out of six, achieving an amazing one – two placing on the Open division.

Peru got second, needing only 744 points to get first. Guadalupe, showed some amazing surfing along the five days of competition, and got third above Costa Rica , that for only 29 points point didn´t got the bronzed medal.

The day started with Junior and Open repercharge last heats, where the eleventh times Panama´s National Champ, Gary Saavedra lost, as well as Bruno Gallini and Caetano Vargas from Brazil, and Luis María Iturria from Uruguay, who was the only surfer still on the contest that got to the final day making all the way on the repercharge, and goy eight on the contest.

On the repercharge final Three Times National Champ, Sebastián Alarcón and Fred Amoux from Guadalupe lost their heats against Gabriel Villaran from Peru and Federico Pilurzu from Costa Rica, they got to the big final, facing Gabriel Aramburu from Peru and Flavio Nakajima from Brazil.

The final started with Gabriel Aramburu comfortably leading, after he surfed two high scoring waves, Pilurzu and Nakajima mainteined their chances, while Gabriel Villaran surfed only one wave and needed a good score to get first. With five minutes lefts, Villaran surfed amazingly on a perfec right, in which he made ten top to bottom maneuvers that was ended with an air, and received a perfect 10 from the judges reaching the first place, leaving his fellow country men Aramburu in second, Flavio Nakajima in third and Federico Pilurzu in fourth.

“I was nervous, got that first wave on the start and I had to wait another eight minutes to paddle on another one. Finally it came and it was great, I was lucky cause if it was a bad one I definitely was not going to win”. Commented Villaran, and continued: “I am really happy to win here on my home, with Gabriel –Aramburu- staying second, this was what we have to do to maximize our team points. This is a dream, but, from now on is good for doing good on the World Tour.”

Jason Torres from Costa Rica was today´s surpris, he made it through all the contest silently, beating some of Brazil , Peru and Guadalupe finest talents. On the final, Arthur Bourbon from Guadalupe started leading the heat, with Brazilians Thomas Hermez and 2005 Junior World Champion Jefferson Silva fighting for the lead. But a double interference was call on Bourbon and Hermez, opening the door for Silva and Torres. The Brazilian dominated but left Torres needing five points and a half.

With 30 seconds left on the heat, the Costa Rican took a good right, and got the better of it, doing some good off the lips and cutbuacks to the shore, receiving 6,36; enough to be the Junior Panamerican Surfing Champion.

Analí Gomez from Peru was the best surfer on the Ladies division, winning all the heats she entered. Once in the final heat, she started with a wipe out on a good wave. But it took only a few minutes to take the lead that she maintained until the end, leaving Marina Werneck from in second, Ornella Pellizari from Argentina in third and Lisbeth Vindas from Costa Rica –quarta-.

On the Longboard division, Peruvian team Coach and Longboarder, Roberto Meza was also the best surfer on his division winning all the heats he entered. On the final he made 15,17, and left his fellow countrymen Felipe Becerra in second, Vincent Delaplace from Guadalupe in third and Brazilian Alex Leite, fourth. “This is amazing,” said and emotional Meza, “I have been longboarding for years but the fact of surfing for your flag is inspiring, specially making points for your team and to be the Coach at the same time”.

Uri Valdão from Brazil got first on Bodyboard, making all the way through the main event, beating his country fellowman Erisberto Abrantes –second -, Gabriel Abrantes from Chile and Jeremy Arnoux from Guadalupe, third and four respectively.

Natasha Sagardia, the only representative from Puerto Rico on the Games, came to win and made all her heats through the main event, finally winning confortably, with a combined score of 14,33, leaving Christiane Kale from Brasil in second, Paloma Feygang from Chile in third and Heloise Bourreax from Guadalupe in fourth. “Coming alone was a great challenge, I thought that it was going to be uncomfortable, but maybe, it was better than coming with all the team, cause it was my strength all that it took to win, my will. My strength gave me the Panamerican Surfing Championship, and it is a dream coming true”, declared Sagardia.
