Winners announced for biggest Spanish waves ridden in 2005/06 awards

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 January, 2006 : - - The first two editions of the Buenosolas Big Wave Awards  have been a complete success. The winner of the first edition was the photographer Ishuko with a picture of surfer Aritza Saratxaga in La Galea.

The photographer Marcelo Diaz has won the second edition with a photo of Mikel Agote surfing a remote reefbreak in Gipuzkoa, in the biggest tow-in session ever photographied in the North Shore of Spain. You can see all the photos in www.buenasolas.com.

PUNTA GALEA BIG CHALLENGE

This is an Invitational big wave contest (traditional paddling). 12 invited big wave riders in the following competition format: two heats with six riders each and a final with the best six riders. Time: an hour each heat. The scores are given by the riders, those that are in the water and those that are on shore. 3.000,00 € prizemoney: the biggest wave, the best surfer, the most radical take-off and the biggest wipe out.

Waves have to be at least  4 metre high (12 feet).
The event will be entirely held on a boat at sea.
The event will take place in one day from December 3th to January 15th.

The organization will have a website (www.tresesenta.com) and a telephone available for the public to get information about the date of the contest. The contest will be announced three days in advance, according to the weather forecast and the opinion of the competitors. On shore, a speaker will comment on the sessions to the audience attending the contest.
