    All Hail The King! Quiksilver King Of The Groms Series Kicks In This Weekend.

    Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 March, 2006 : - - This weekend sees the inaugural Quiksilver King of the Groms event, presented by Peugeot and Samsung, taking place in Cape Town. This the First event out of a dynamic, new-look three part series encompassing events in Cape Town, East London and Durban .

    This weekend's King of the Groms will use a mobile venue format which will guarantee that the best waves on the peninsula are selected for each days surfing. The King Of The Groms series features an Under 15 and an under 20 division and offers a healthy total prize pool of R84500. The two divisions have attracted an entry of 90 surfers this weekend.

    In a strong movement away from tedious losers rounds and repecharge heats, Quiksilver have chosen to run these events on a pro format in a bid to Train young competitors on the WQS system. There will be man-on-man semis and finals in both divisions.

    The winner of the U15 series receives an all expenses paid trip to the Grand finals in France and an opportunity to become The King of The Groms while the winner of the U20 series earns himself a return ticket to Hawaii.

    Hot contenders for honours in the U15 division are surfers such as current U14 SA Champ Brendan Gibbens,  Matt Bromley, Nick Godfrey, Dale Staples, Shaun Joubert and Michaell February.

    The U20 division will be contested by some of South Africa's finest young surfers, namely Jordy Smith, Damien Fahrenfort, Rudy Palmboom and Keegen Nel. Quiksilver wildcards have been awarded to Brandon Jackson and Kyle Lane.

    There will be a Zigzag Blowing Up Award of a mini hand-grenade and a thousand bucks in blue notes for the surfer deemed by the Zag crew present to be blowing up the most during the event. The event is going to be covered on Boardriders TV, which is set for extensive broadcast time on Supersport.

    In order to enter, groms must download the entry form from www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za , complete it, deposit the entry fee, and fax the entry form and deposit slip to 0866166988.
