Ja's surfers arrive in Brazil for World Junior Champs

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 May, 2006 : - - Jamaica's surfing team arrived in Marisias, Brazil, in high spirits for the Quiksilver/ISA 2006 World Junior Surfing Championships which had its opening ceremony yesterday. "The waves are really big," said Jamaica Surfing Association (JSA) president Billy Wilmot. "The team is excited to be in Brazil and the mood of the team is upbeat and positive."

The opening ceremony was scheduled for 1:00 pm (Brazil time) and featured the parade of nations down the main street followed by the 'Mixing of the Sands' ceremony, where each competing nation adds a portion of sand from their country to a large container representing the unity of the surfers of the world.

The surfing competition kicks off today with Jamaica's first surfer being Eneson Lightbourne in the Under-18 division.
