Injured surfer rescued from rocks at Raglan
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 May, 2006 : - - An injured surfer was plucked to safety from rocks by a rescue helicopter just ahead of the rising tide near Raglan yesterday. The 22-year-old man had been trying to reach the surf when he fell onto rocks at an isolated bay just south of Manu Bay.
With four-metre waves washing over the rocks and high cliffs behind, the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance was called in. The helicopter lowered a paramedic down to the injured surfer and prepared him to be flown out on a long line to the shore, where he was loaded into the helicopter and flown to Waikato Hospital.
A spokesman for the rescue helicopter said the victim had head and arm injuries, but "nothing life threatening".
