Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 May, 2006 : - - The Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships got underway on Sunday, May 7 at Maresias. The competition was held over two separate podiums with the Under 18 boys at the main podium and the Under 16 boys at a second podium 300 meters down the beach.

The conditions varied from 2-3ft clean and offshore in the morning, to onshore at midday and finally glassy in the afternoon. The South African Under 18's had a very good day with Jordy Smith, Klee Strachan, Kyle Lane and Rudy Palmboom (all from Durban) all winning their heats and advancing to the second qualifying round.
