    Girls shine in stormy weather

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 May, 2006 : - - The British Team completed their second day of competition today at the World Junior Surfing Games, the Olympics of surfing, in the small town of Maresias near Sao Paulo. The overcast conditions gave some respite from the fierce sub tropical sun and the afternoon a spectacular storm.

In the water the British girls entered the contest for the first time and the heroine of the day was Kate Dendle from Swansea who had a tough heat but who produced two spectacular backhand snaps on one wave to send her through to the next round. Gwen Spurlock also from Swansea also fought hard to get a result against the strong Australian team.

The competition resumes tomorrow with Team captain Sam Burkett (who completes the Swansea trio in the 12 surfer team) in the water at first light.
