    South African Team has a fair day Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships 

    Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 May, 2006 : - - The Australian Team is looking good after day five of the contest at Maresias. Under 18 boys Julian Wilson and Caleb R-Boquist were in the same heat and placed first and second respectively both advancing to qualifying round 5. Owen Wright was the standout of the Under 16 division winning his heat convincingly. Sally Fitzgibbons and Jessica Hickson also advanced to qualifying round five in the girls division. 

    The South African Team had a fairly good day. Kyle Lane once again got off to a great start catching to 7 point rides to finish in second place and knocking out Brazilian top Wigolly Dantas. "It was a hard heat and I'm really happy about beating the number 1 seed from Brazil. I'm hoping for a good result in the event". 

    Jordy Smith placed third in a though heat that was won by Jeremy Flores (France). Klee Strachan surfed well in his repercharge round four heat but ended in third and is now eliminated from the event. 

    In the Under 16 division Matthew Bromley (Kommetjie) finished a close third in his heat but gets another chance in the repercharge rounds tomorrow. Shaun Joubert (Mossel Bay) advanced in second place to keep his hopes of a World title alive. "I'm surfing better everyday and I want to surf well again tomorrow and make the final", Joubert remarked. 

    Haydn MacNicol fought hard in his round four repercharge heat finishing in second place eliminating Garret Parkes (Australia).  Alice McGregor (East London) surfed her way to a second place in the tough conditions at the second podium and advances to repercharge round four. The last South African to surf today was Rudy Palmboom (Bluff); he placed second in his heat to advance to repercharge round five.  

    South Africa look are looking good for a top four finish along with Australia, Brazil, France.
