Minutes of TSSA AGM May 2006

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 May, 2006 : - - Below are full minutes of the TSSA Annual General Meeting chaired by Exco Member Pierre du Plessis.

    1. WELCOME – Pierre du  Plessis

    2. APPOLOGIES -  Mark Fine, Grant Twiggy Baker –

    3. ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT – Presented by  Kyle Kahn
(The annual financials was acceptable to all members present and signed off by the Exco.)

    4. CURRENT EXEMPTION

    •  At the last SGM we agreed to seek legal opinion.

    • Ross, Dave and Myself have met with Walkers Attorney Senior partner Deon Malherba and Advocate Johan Beyers

    • There are three options for TSSA
    .
    1. Appeal the current exemption we will only be heard next year. Cost R50k to R150K.
    2. Change the current law around the ban of Jet Ski’s 2years and up to 250k, this affects all user groups and will be extremely difficult.
    3. Prepare a bulletproof application for our next exemption.

It was agreed by majority that for now it would be in TSSA best nterest to tackle option 3. Above. The Exco will meet at its earliestc covenience to outline a strategy to move beyond the current exemption.

    • BACKGROUND – At the end of the day we all just want to Tow with out all the hassle, the problem is we want to Tow Surf in the Table Mountain National Park where the use of Jet Ski’s are prohibited by Law.

    • This is how the TSSA came about in the first place and to date has made two successful applications for an exemption to tow. This is largely thanks to Glenn and Ross and I really want to thank them again as this has been no easy task.

    • We don’t have to like the law or necessarily agree with it but as an ASSOCIATION we have to obey it.

    • Either you are a member of TSSA and abide by the rules and as the members of TSSA will  prepare for our next exemption.

    • Or, you break the law, do your own thing and face the consequences.

    • This is the only way this association will be able to continue in the future. If we want a cart blanch within the TMNP to tow, TSSA has to maintain a high level of credibility and consistency.

    5. ELECTION OF NEW EXCO COMMITTIE
TSSA members voted in the new Exco Members they are as follows.

    EXCO POSITIONS
    CHAIRMAN- Pierre du Plessis
    TREASURER – Kyle Kahn
SECETARY – Mark Fine (Mark was not present and must confirm nomination.)
    EXCO MEMBER -  Nico Johnson
    EXCO MEMBER – Micky Duffus
    EXCO MEMBER – Dave Smith
EXCO MEMBER – Jevon Le Roux
May I take this opportunity to thank the members for there votes and congratulate the new Exco committee. I believe we have a great team of people and trust that we will work well together for the best of our members and TSSA.

    6. Changes to TSSA constitution and rules
There were two changes to the constitution, which represent the rules of our association of how we plan to deal with members who break rules in the   future. This will be finalised at our next SGM.

    7. OTHER ISSUES – Ross Lindsey on behalf of Simon Low and Andrew
Marr tabled their request to again become members. They have requested that the new Exco consider this, which we have agreed to and will be done at our next SGM, which will be held, at our earliest convenience. We would appreciate if both Simon and Andrew refrain from towing until this has been resolved, as this has already had a negative impact for TSSA.

    8. NEW MEMBERSHIP R250.00 PER MEMBER
All members present paid their membership fees but I  would urge member’s that were not present whishing to remain members to please pay the R250.00 to Kyle Kahn ASAP. You will only be able to Tow if you are a paid up member, this is your responsibility. The cut off for renewing membership will be till the end of May 06.

    9. END AGM
Thanks to all who attended, look forward to seeing you on the next BIG SWELL.
