Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 May, 2006 : - - It was another day at the office for shaper Dave Lewis when the biggest swell of the year hit the South-West and south coasts of Western Australia this week. Lewis 40, tackled the waves the size of a two-storey building. He is a specialist at shaping surfboards that are towed into massive waves behind a jet ski.
"I'd just shaped a couple of new boards and I needed to try them out," the former WA surfing champion said. "It's about credibility – I shape the boards and I have to get out there and test them as well." Lewis said that tackling the giant surf at Boat Ramps, could have been deadly.
"I remember that wave. It was just a big, blue, beautiful wave," he said. "I just remember riding it, thinking, `Wow, what an amazing, beautiful wave'. "You do take your life in your hands, but the rewards are well and truly worth it."
