South Shore Collision Sends Surfer to Hospital
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 May, 2006 : - - Scary moments for a surfer on Oahu's south shore this afternoon. A woman was surfing at a popular spot called "Tonggs" off Diamond Head when she was accidentally hit in the head by a kayak. The collision sent her to the hospital in critical condition.
The woman, described as in her late 40s or early 50s, was seen floating motionless about 100 yards from shore. Three nearby surfers saw the accident and paddled over to her. When they reached her, she was unconscious.
"She was face down floating in the water when we got to her," said surfer Rob Mathews. "I was on a longboard, so we grabbed her, turned her over, put her in the rescue position and the rest of us swam her in."
