World's Top Young surfers head a capacity field set for Lennox Head and the annual Rusty Gromfest
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 June, 2006 : - - The quality field lined up to surf this years Rusty Gromfest could well make it the best ever of it's already amazing eleven year history. Highlighting the entries are the super talented pair of Owen Wright (Culburra) and Sally Fitzgibbons (Gerroa) who both come from the south coast of NSW.
Both previous winners at this event, just two months ago they represented Australia at the ISA World Junior Championships in Brazil with Wright winning the boys and Fitzgibbons 2nd in the girls!
Sally Fitzgibbons summed up the importance of the Rusty Gromfest by saying "I have been in the final of the Rusty Gromfest for the last 4 years and 2005 was my first win. I was really glad to eventually win the event as all the best surfers come to the comp which makes it a hard event to win."
A massive field of 342 of Australia and the worlds best young surfers across the girls and boys divisions of 16, 14 and 12 and under are confirmed and ready to surf in the worlds most prestigious and original grommet festival of surfing. While Wright and Fitzgibbons standout, an analysis of the field reveals an amazing array of great young surfers all capable of winning and further establishing themselves as potential talents in Australia's future surfings stars.

What is always exciting about the Rusty Gromfest is the emergence of some of the relatively unknown young talents. They appear from nowhere, having physically matured in the short space of a year and with skills recently developed in the relative obscurity of their home beaches, they come to take on and often seriously challenge some of their established rivals.
A good performance in the Rusty Gromfest holds great prestige in surfing and it's every young surfers aim to do well here.Talent scouts from industry and management groups often use the Rusty Gromfest to eyeball all the emerging talent. Lennox Head in July is just about the perfect getaway for all young surfers and their families who look forward to the northern NSW winter climate and a variety of great waves avaiable throughout the area.
July 7th to 11th will be five days of action packed and fun filled energetic surfing. Entries are already at capacity in all divisions except under 12 girls which has a few remaining positions. Reserve levels across the already filled divisions is at 125 which further highlights just how popular the Rusty Gromfest is!
The Rusty Gromfest continues to bring families of nationwide surfing communities together at an annual event to create a red carpet surf experience for the groms and the success of this event sees the Rusty Gromfest continue to grow in prestige and numbers.
Also integreated into this years Rusty Gromfest will be the experienced commentary team of Mitchell Ross, Ronnie Blakey and Toby Rattcliffe along with a fully packaged duel bank computer scoring system through Surfing Australia to ensure a smooth and precise event. This year will see an inclusion of the official Rusty Gromfest disco being held for Groms only, on the Saturday night 8th July, as the highlight of an epic week of junior surfing.
