Billabong Pro called off for Tuesday, Trent Munro wins only heat run.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 July, 2006 : - - Organisers of the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay sent out the last heat of round two this morning but due to extremely inconsistent conditions plaguing the heat, round three was called off for the day. With forecasts indicating that a decent swell will arrive towards the end of the week, and with only two full days needed out of the four remaining in the waiting period to complete the event, organisers will assess conditions again at first light tomorrow.

The only heat run today was that of round two, heat 16 in which Trent Munro (AUS) accounted for Troy Brooks (AUS). It was an extremely slow affair with very few quality waves pushing through in the allotted time frame, although Munro grabbed the upper hand when he locked in a 7.50 on a freak wave. Since running the heat the ocean has gone almost dead flat.

The full round three heat draw is available below and given that a large chunk of the highest ranked surfers on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour were knocked out in round two, going down to rookies and underdogs alike, the remainder of the proceedings will prove to be very interesting indeed.

With currently ranked world number two Andy Irons (HAW) and world number three Bobby Martinez (USA) going out in yesterday's round and with Damien Hobgood (USA) withdrawing due the birth of his first child, it opens up the door for Kelly Slater (USA) to extend his ratings lead. A good result for Taj Burrow (AUS), Taylor Knox (AUS) or Joel Parkinson could also see them leapfrog their foes back into the top three.

Five of the current top 10 ranked surfers are out including Irons, Martinez, and Hobgood plus CJ Hobgood (USA) and Bruce Irons (HAW). ava.net or at 808/593-1330.

Check out the full heat draw below and stay tuned to www.billabongpro.com or www.aspworldtour.com for all the LIVE action and event updates.

Round three heat draw:
Heat 1: Mick Fanning (AUS) vs Roy Powers (HAW)
Heat 2: Greg Emslie (ZAF) vs Victor Ribas (BRA)
Heat 3: TBC vs Adrian de Souza
Heat 4: Joel Parkinson (AUS) vs Yuri Sodre (BRA)
Heat 5: Phil Macdonald (AUS) vs David Weare (ZAF)
Heat 6: Shaun Cansdell (AUS) vs Peterson Rosa
Heat 7: Nathan Hedge (AUS) vs Mick Lowe (AUS)
Heat 8: Kelly Slater (USA) vs Sean Holmes (ZAF)
Heat 9: Taj Burrow (AUS) vs Damien Fahrenfort (ZAF)
Heat 10: TBC vs Pancho Sullivan (HAW)
Heat 11: Tom Whitaker (AUS) vs Jarrad Howse (AUS)
Heat 12: Danny Wills (AUS) vs Mikael Picon (FRA)
Heat 13: Taylor Knox (USA) vs Jordy Smith (ZAF)
Heat 14: TBC vs Travis Logie (ZAF)
Heat 15: Tim Reyes (USA) vs Pedro Henrique (BRA

AM Report: Billabong Pro on Hold, next call at 09h00 Tuesday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 July, 2006 : - - With small but clean waves pushing through the break known affectionately as Supertubes, organisers of the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay will send out the last heat of round two and head straight into round three from 9.30am sharp.

Forecasts indicate that unpleasant weather with unfavourable winds may be on the way over the next few days and with the waves still being reasonably consistent and contestable it was a no brainer to send out the best of the best on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour.

After yesterday where a large portion of the sport’s biggest names were eliminated from the event, mostly at the hands of rookies and underdogs, today should also be challenging as once again the wildcards and rookies are showing particularly solid form.

Check out the full heat draw below and stay tuned to www.billabongpro.com or www.aspworldtour.com for all the LIVE action and event updates.
