Wahoo's Fish Taco Winter Grom Competition Revs up for Saturday July 29
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 July, 2006 : - - Australia’s next crop of potential surfing world-beaters is to converge on Queensland’s Gold Coast to contest the Wahoo’s Fish Taco Grom Comp on Saturday 29th July, 2006. To be held on the southern end of the Gold Coast, but mobile throughout the coast, over 100 frothing grommets are anticipated too light up the Gold Coast’s ever-dependable beach break peaks in the scintillating two-day event.
Regarded as Queensland’s premier event for the mirco-groms (U/10 &U/8’s), rippers from as far south as Byron Bay to as north as Yeppoon will flock to Queensland to compete in the winter edition of the ’06 Wahoo’s Fish Taco Grom Comp.
In its third year, the Wahoo’s Fish Taco Grom Comp is looked upon as a major stepping-stone for Queensland’s next generation of surfing superstars to one day follow in the footsteps of current world surfing superstars – Mick Fanning, Dean Morrison and Joel Parkinson.
In the blue ribbon under 16 boy’s division, Coolangatta’s dynamic duo of James and Thomas Woods lead the charge for top-honors. James, who has only recently claimed his maiden FCS Queensland Junior Title, will be looking to add yet another title to his already bulging collection, whilst Thomas is eager to imitate his older brother’s recent success.
In comparison, under 14 boy’s surfer Nicholas Edgerton (Wurtulla) fronts a strong group of Sunshine Coast surfers that are ready to upstage their more fancied southern opponents. Tiny Gold Coast twins – Amiya and Brodie Doyle (Coolangatta) will gain pose strong opposition in the U/14 girl’s divisions.
Due to the resounding success of last year’s Wahoo’s Micro Grom Comp, a summer edition of the Wahoo’s Mirco Grom Comp is to be staged on the weekend of December 2nd-3rd, 2006. The Winter Wahoo’s Micro Grom Comp has U/16, U/14, U/12, U/10 and U/8 boy’s divisions as well as U/16, U/14 and U/12 girl’s divisions.
