Surfers Are Warned of Shark Activity on Cape Peninsula

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 July, 2006 : - - An urgent warning has been issued of increased shark activity between Scarborough and Noordhoek Corner in the south of the Cape Peninsula. The Cape Town Shark Working Group has urged all swimmers and surfers to be on the lookout for sharks - particularly in the area between Witsand Beach and Long Beach.

The sharks are being attracted by oil and fat seeping from the Southern Right whale that washed up at the beach next to the Kommetjie lighthouse on Friday night. The whale was already dead when it washed ashore. The burning of its carcass will probably begin today.
