Rip Curl Super Series postponed again Wednesday - Next call 09h30 Thursday  -  Is it ON ?
    (Version Francais en dessous)

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 August, 2006 : - -  The Rip Curl Pro Super Series WQS was called off again today due to small and inconsistent conditions. There will be no competition today, but contest officials and surfers will meet at the beach tomorrow morning at 8am for the next call.

Rip Curl Super Series postponed for today - Next call 08h00 Wednesday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 August, 2006 : - -  The 20th annual Rip Curl Pro Super Series WQS was called off today due to small and inconsistent conditions. There will be no competition today, but contest officials and surfers will meet at the beach tomorrow morning at 8am for the next call.

There are five Round 1 heats still to be held before competition moves into Round 2. After several high profile upsets yesterday everyone is eagerly awaiting the next day of competition. Past Rip Curl Pro Super Series champion Tom Carroll (AUS) will make an appearance in heat 24 after being given a 'legends' spot into the event.

Round 2 will introduce the seeded surfers for the first time and event favourite Mick Fanning (AUS) will paddle out in heat one against fellow Foster's ASP World Tour surfer Adrian Buchan (AUS), Matt Jones (AUS) and Abdel El Harim (MAR). Fanning is looking forward to competing the 20th anniversary Rip Curl Pro and is hopeful of doing well in the contest.

“I'm pretty excited about the whole thing, because I think France is a beautiful place with great beach breaks,” said Fanning. “I haven't been in a WQS all year and I would love to win it.”

The 25-year-old has had mixed results throughout the year, but his recent Championship win at the Jeffereys Bay World Tour event has sparked confidence and a strong showing in Hossegor will set him straight for the rest of the season.

“I have never really done great in Hossegor, so this could be a great warm up for the World Tour event we have to surf there next month.”

Next call on competition at the Rip Curl Pro will take place at 8am (local time) on Wednesday morning.
