Results are in for the 10th Annual East Coast Wahine Championships

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 August, 2006 : - - Wrightsville Beach -| The waves weren’t quite up to the tasty level later Sunday morning but the conditions failed to slow down the action for the finals of the 10th Annual East Coast Wahine Championships. The ladies-only surfing event, held near the Crystal Pier, included various competition levels for shortboard, longboard and bodyboard.

Mary Ann Mangiacapre, the Southern North Carolina district director for the Eastern Surfing Association, said the waves this weekend were actually better than last year. Competitors from as far away as Maine, Florida, California and Puerto Rico gathered on the local beach strand for the two-day event, held here for the past decade now.

Local surfer Jo Pickett won two divisions, Goddess Shortboard and One Design fish, as seven of the event’s 13 divisions were won by competitors from either Wrightsville Beach or Wilmington. The East Coast Wahine organizers, including directors Paul Bushhardt and Ann Weber have taken extensive steps to insure that they leave the sand with only footprints.
