BSA Gold Rush Surf Contest
A New Concept in Surfing Competition, the BSA Gold Rush Surf Contest
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 August, 2006 : - - A new concept in surfing competition is planned to take place at Fistral beach Newquay this year, the idea to use mobile phones and email to call the competition at short notice (72 hrs) thereby ensuring big waves.
Karen Walton, National Director of the British Surfing Association said: “In the past we have had problems arranging competitions to coincide with good conditions, ultimately it is always up to the ocean. We wanted a big wave short board competition in the UK and this seems the way to do it.
When Fistral is at its best it’s amazing and that’s when we want our best surfers in the water, utilizing the power of big waves to show the judges what they are really capable of. This event will raise the bar of UK competitive surfing and help the BSA select British Team members who will be expected perform in world class conditions.”
Dropping everything and heading for big waves (surfs up) has always been the quest of all keen surfers, however with prize money of £3000 up for grabs this “wave induced competition” will add extra incentive to grab your board and rush to Fistral.
Anyone wishing to enter the first BSA Gold Rush Surf Contest can contact the International Surfing Centre at Newquay on 01637 876474. Be ready!
