Scotch College Through to Finals in Blue Ribbon Division of Waves Surfwear School Surfing Titles
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 September, 2006 : - - Blustery winter conditions did not deter competitors on day 3 of the Waves Surfwear School Surfing Titles for 2006. Despite strong onshore winds and driving rain, students still managed to display some committed and strong manouvres in the dismal conditions.
Scotch College used the conditions to their advantage and played the waiting game for the better, longer waves that were intermittently on offer. David Delroy-Carr wasted no time in asserting his teams dominance during the open boys short board final, racking up a series of manouvres that had his school hit the lead early. Along with team mate James Graham, the two pushed their team in to next Fridays final to be held at Trigg Beach.
Interesting enough while some of the other schools had entered two teams in the division Scotch College had only entered one, but the team was invincible and dominated most of the day and the final to relegate John 23rd College into second and CBC Fremantle into third. Junior boys body board final saw Scotch again taking out a division with a strong performance over Churchlands SHS, Prendiville and Lake Joondalup respectively.
In the junior boys short board final Churchlands SHS B team was well represented by Tomas Mainstone and Daniel Christiansen. The two pint size grommets battled the conditions to do their school justice and worked hard to earn another day back at the beach for next Fridays final on the 8th of September.
Unfortunately for John 23rd again they could only manage a credible second like their counterparts in the open division with Churchlands A team succumbing to third. The open body board final saw a very experienced Josh Garner rocket his school into first place with his polished performance. Garner who also regularly competes in the Surfing WA state titles secured his school with the help of his team mates, another day off to appear in next Fridays final.
With the weather forecast to moderate and improve for tomorrow the last of the schools will surf to see who will again make it to the finals on Friday the 8th of September.
