2006 LOST ENERGY DRINK ISA WORLD SURFING GAMES ‘TEAM CHAMPION’ TO BE AWARDED IOC PRESIDENT’S TROPHY
Trophy will be presented at the October 22nd Awards Ceremony

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 October, 2006 : - - San Diego, Calif., The 2006 Lost Energy Drink ISA World Surfing Games taking place October 14-22, 2006 in beautiful Huntington Beach, Calif. will present the ‘Team Champion’ of the Games with the prestigious International Olympic Committee (IOC) President’s Trophy.  The Games showcase surfing talent from 34 countries as they compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals. 

The IOC President’s Trophy is presented to officially recognized International Federations and is currently being exhibited at the ISA Headquarters. The president of the ISA, Fernando Aguerre will present the trophy to the Team Champion for exemplary performance during the October 22, 2006 Awards Ceremony.   

The IOC President’s Trophy was first presented to the USA team in 1996 and celebrated the foundational event of surfers competing under the Olympic movement.   

In addition to the presentation of the IOC President’s Trophy, the winning team will be honored with the Basil Lomberg Perpetual Trophy, named in honor of the President of the South African National Governing Body (NGB) who was responsible for resurrecting the ISA world titles in 1978.  The winning team will be invited to showcase these awards in their home country for two years. 

At the previous World Surfing Games held in Salinas, Ecuador in 2004, the IOC President Trophy and Basil Lomberg Perpetual Trophy recipient was the Australian team who were additionally presented the ISA gold medal for each individual Team Champion.  This year’s Games will once again showcase the world’s most talented surfers who have been proudly chosen to compete on behalf of their countries.
