WQS Challenger Chris Waring Joins No Fear Surf Team

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 October, 2006 : - - Currently ranked at number 180 in the WQS points, Chris Waring, age 19, recently joined forces with Carlsbad, California-based alternative sportswear brand No Fear. After putting the finishing touch on his amateur surf career by earning the NSSA number one ranking in the Men’s Open classification, Waring cracked the WQS Top 200 within six months of turning professional.

“Chris has got a ton of potential,” says Britt Galland, No Fear Vice President of Marketing. “In his first year of competing in the WQS, he has already cracked the Top 200. He’s ahead of schedule and he’s approaching his career, for such a young guy, very professionally. He has a trainer and he’s working with Brad Gerlach, former number two in the world, and Chris will download a lot of information from Brad. We expect Chris to be a WCT contender within the next three years and we’re very happy to have him on the team.”

Adds Chris Waring of making the move from standout amateur to highly regarded young professional, “ my goal this year was to hit the Top 200 in the ASP World Qualifying Series in order to be able to compete in 6-star events,” he says. “I achieved that after the midway reseed and am now currently ranked #180 on the WQS. I have also been working on my magazine and editorial coverage. Now that I’ve joined the No Fear surf team, I feel I have everything I need to accomplish my goals as a professional.”
