Fun Weekend at the Roxy Wahine Classic at San Onofre State Beach, San Clemente

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 October, 2006 : - - Huntington Beach, Calif. – Roxy’s annual Wahine Classic took place last weekend, October 6-8, 2006 at San Onofre State Beach in San Clemente, California.  Over 150 amateur women and girls competed in the longboard and the high school team challenge competitions.

All ages of noseriding queens and princesses were represented at the two-day beach extravaganza, from the eight and under in the “itzy bitzys” division to the 35 and over in the “masters” division.

The second annual Lisa Andersen Challenge was held in conjunction with the Roxy Wahine Classic with team San Clemente taking the victory led by Roxy teamrider Oleema Miller.  The Lisa Andersen Challenge takes the top four surfers from local high schools for a relay competition with each surfer catching two waves to contribute to the team’s overall score.

In addition to the friendly competition in the water, the Roxy Wahine Classic brought out all the traditional beach fun with Lei making, Hawaiian drumming and a Hula dance performance, as well as a free movie premier of the Roxy surf flick “Shimmer” to kick-off the weekend on Friday night.
