Australia's Champion Young Surfers heading to the Gold Coast for the Rip Curl GromSearch
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 December, 2006 : - - A fantastic line up of surfers from all over Australia are heading for Queensland's Gold Coast for event six of the seven event Rip Curl GromSearch national series. The quality field is headed by recently crowned Australian Junior Champions Todd Rosewall (Victoria), Sally Fitzgibbons (Sth Coast NSW) and Laura Enever (Narrabeen/Sydney) who will all go into this event full of confidence following their big wins in NSW last week. For Rosewall and Enever, both have already won GromSearch events this year and have therefore qualified for the Australian GromSearch Final which runs at Bells Beach in Autumn, but such is their appetite for high level competition they'll take on Queensland's best in their home waters eager to take another prestigious GromSearch Title. "I qualified for the GromSearch national final by winning in Tasmania when it was freezing and snowing on the beach last month so I'm heading to the Gold Coast with no pressure to qualify. I'm just keen to surf in warm waters and great weather which will be completely different to Tassie!" said Rosewall after his win in last weeks national junior under 16 final. Fitzgibbons on the other hand is yet to qualify for the final and she'll be keen to take a win on the Gold Coast and add to her already amazing junior career. Fitzgibbons won the under 18 national junior final last week and earlier this year finished second in the World Junior Titles in Brazil despite being one of the youngest competitors in the event! She has already won National Pro Junior events and is certainly one of the most exciting talents in Junior surfing. Queensland surfers (Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast) are certain to be hard to beat and will relish the opportunity to take on the quality interstate surfers. The Woods brothers from Coolangatta, James and Thomas "Tiger" Woods, last week both made the finals at the national titles and also took a victory in the schools national titles and the opportunity to surf against Australia's best on their home familiar beaches will suit these two highly talented youngsters. A highlight of each day at the Rip Curl GromSearch is the SNICKERS® wave of the day award which is announced at the completion of each day along with the WAVES Surfing Magazine special awards for the highest scoring surfers at each event. Also, just announced, to add to the SNICKERS® wave of the day award, SNICKERS® are into an additional award associated to the expression sessions at both the Gold Coast and Maroubra events which will see the winner of both expression sessions, and their best mate, going to Bells for the Rip Curl Pro next Easter as part of an awesome prize pack! The event begins Monday December 4th and press releases along with quality images will be dispersed each day through to the finals on Friday December 8.
