Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day
Girls All Over Australia hit the surf at the annual Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day for 2006!
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 December, 2006 : - - In Victoria, as far as the weather goes, it was simply perfect to learn to surf. Almost 40 degrees and a small ocean swell saw the girls flock to the beaches to experience the thrill of surfing in a safe and fun way at the annual Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day.
Kate Ceberano was on hand at Jan Juc Beach to encourage the girls and support the partner to this years Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day - The National Breast Cancer Foundation.
"What a fantastic turn out by the girls and what a great sport to be involved in - It's healthy and fun and you can just tell that all these girls who experienced it today will be back for more and many will be hooked on the sport for life - It's a great program!" Last year, an amazing 6705 girls participated in the weekend and Surfing Australia expects the numbers to again increase this year.
Steve Robertson from Surfing Australia commented on the day by saying " This is the 16th year of Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing and every year the numbers increase so we expect even more this year! Last years benchmark of 6700 will be hard to beat but with such great beach weather we may well do it. "
Rip Curl events co ordinator was on hand at Jan Juc Beach today to hand over a cheque to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for $7 500 as part of this years program. Danni Cookesley from the Foundation was delighted with the large turn out at Jan Juc along with Rip Curls donation saying " The money will help tremendously with our research and for all the girls surfing today in this program it's a great opportunity to increase their awareness ."
The Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day is an all female learn-to-surf program that actively encourages non-surfers and beginners of all ages to experience the waves with customised introductory learn to surf lessons. It is the world’s leading all-girl surf program and runs at over 60 registered Surf Schools right around the Australian Coastline.
The event occurs this weekend December 9 and 10 and 2006 will mark the 16th year of operation. Last year saw a 15% participant increase, introducing 6,705 girls to the sport of surfing.
