'Wolfskinz' Flick Made In Large Part With Gisborne Action
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 December, 2006 : - - IT had been a long time since Damon Meade had seen a good New Zealand surf film. But the arts school graduate had some footage himself — much of it featuring some of the best surfers in the country — so he decided to make his own. The result is Wolfskinz, released last week after nearly two years of filming and editing.
Put out under the umbrella of Meade’s Undergrown Pro-ductions, the film showcases waveriders including Maz Quinn, Bobby Hansen, Jay Quinn, Richard Christie, Blair Stewart, Brent Rasby, Jay Papworth, Morehu Roberts and Matty Scorringe. Doug Young, too, makes an appearance with one sequence following his tackling of surf in Tahiti, including what was considered to be the heaviest wave ever ridden by a Kiwi.
Meade estimates that around half the footage was shot in and around Gisborne, with the rest drawn from a trip he took to Australia’s Gold Coast, and contributed stock shot in Tahiti and Indonesia. "I couldn’t afford to do too much travelling so I was lucky to get hold of some really good material to complement the New Zealand and Australian footage," he said.
