Kustom – Jetty Surf Pro Juniors Round Two Action Moves to Jan Juc.
French surfer Laborde to face biggest test in round three after posting two strong heat wins to date

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 January, 2007 : - - A drop in swell saw the Kustom – Jetty Surf Pro Junior move from Bells Beach to nearby Jan Juc beach as round one was completed along with the first eight heats of round two. A number of high profile surfers again stood out today lead by Gold Coast surfer Brent Dorrington who convincingly won his opening round heat.

“I’m adjusting to the cold water at the moment which I’m not used to but an early win is good and looking forward to bigger waves later this week!”

French surfer Pierre Valentin –Laborde lead the international charge today with another easy heat win.  Larborde is just 15 years of age and was a quarter finalist in last weeks ASP World Junior Championships in Sydney. The stylish goofy foot surfer from the south of France will face his biggest test in round three against Gold Coast surfer Brendan Leckie who last year made numerous finals at Pro Junior level and is expected to be one of the main contenders for the series title this season.

As expected, Sunshine Coast’s Julian Wilson easily won through his round two heat posting the days highest scoring waves and heat tally which included an excellent 8.5 out of a possible 10 ride. Wilson now goes into round three where he would normally have been seeded except for his non membership payment prior to this event.

Other young Australian’s to impress today included Sydney surfer Davey Cathels and South Coast NSW surfer Dean Bowen who both progressed to round two. Both are just 16 years old and come into this event with very impressive national and international records at under 15 age level and their transition into pro junior events comes with high expectations.

Local surfers were in good form today with both Tyler Slaven (Jan Juc) and  Finn Barry (Apollo Bay) progressing through their round one heats.

The cadet (16 year and under) division also ran today on the outgoing tide and Jan Juc surfer Todd Rosewell lead the charge with an easy heat win. Other winners in the Cadets included Byron Bay surfer Garrett Parkes, Dean Bowen and New Zealand surfer Ryan Hawker.

With onshore winds and deteriorating conditions during the afternoon today’s event was put on hold early. Conditions are expected to improve significantly in the coming days with clean offshore winds and excellent small waves for the coming two days followed by a long range solid swell at Bells Beach for the weekend.

Jan Juc looks the likely venue for tomorrow for the remainder of round two heats along with the resumption of the Women’s and cadet divisions.
