Return Showdown Looming for Two of the World’s Best Junior Girls!

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 January, 2007 : - - Young Australian surfer Sally Fitzgibbons (16, Gerroa/Sth Coast NSW)  and French surfer Pauline Ado look set to  renew their healthy rivalry with both girls winning  through to the semi finals of the Kustom-Jetty Surf Junior Pro at Jan Juc Beach today. 

Ado currently has the advantage over Fitzgibbons by defeating her in last years World Junior Championships in Brazil but you can be certain that Fitzgibbons will be more than keen at the prospect of this encounter. 

Today’s waves were tiny at Jan Juc but despite these conditions both showed their class and style to find enough power in the waves to perform some strong moves. Fitzgibbon in particular by posting two excellent scores, a 9 and 8.5 out of a possible 10 to again notch up the day’s highest scoring heat win. 

In their semi finals Fitzgibbons will face New Zealand surfer and current Australasian Pro Junior Champion Airini Mason while Ado comes up against Coff’s Harbor surfer Angela Keighran. 

After her win today Fitzgibbons commented on the waves by saying –“ Yesterday we had really good waves at Jan Juc but today’s too small so I’m glad they’ve called off the semi’s and will wait for a new swell and better conditions which look like coming tomorrow. It’s always better if the surfs decent and the luck factor is taken away.” 

Conditions became so small today that the heats were stopped early and the Men’s division now look set to surf tomorrow with good prospects of a new swell and good waves for the top seeds who enter at round three.

Victorian surfers are well represented in round three with local Surfcoast surfer Tim Stevenson (Jan Juc), Josh Johnson Baxter (Ocean Grove), Cahill Bell Warren (Bells Beach) and Finn Barry (Apollo Bay) along with Phillip Island surfer Carl Wright. 

Some of the outstanding surfers set to surf in round three include Matt Wilkinson, Julian Wilson, Mitch Coleborn, Chris Salisbury and Heath Joske. 

With today’s event being called off early the remaining three days will be full on action with plenty of heats still to be completed across all divisions and tomorrow will see the opening heats enter the water at around 7:30am.
