French Surfers Continue Their Domination at the Kustom - Jetty Surf Pro Junior - Possibility of the French taking all divisions!
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 January, 2007 : - - Australia’s best 20 year and under surfers are under fire from the internationals, especially the French, at the prestigious Kustom Jetty Surf Pro Junior running at Jan Juc beach in Victoria.
Young 15 year old French surfer Pauline Ado who late last year won the World Junior Championships in Brazil was too good for Australia’s best defeating Gold Coast surfer Airini Mason in the onshore 1m surf today.
“I know Australia has many of the best young surfers competing and I knew this would be a hard event to win so I’m feeling good about winning today. I’m here to experience the best young surfers and there are so many but now I must return to France for my schooling” In a low scoring final that suffered due to wave quality during Ado managed to take the win on a two wave tally of only 8 points (out of a possible 20) to defeat Mason on 7.5.
Mason was happy with her 2nd placing today saying “The waves were simply terrible for our final so there was little either of us could do. I’ve finished the best of the Australians so that is good for me and I’ll lead the ratings into the next event in a couple of weeks so I’m pleased.”

Mason posted a significant and big semi final win over her biggest Australian rival in Sally Fitzgibbons (Sth Coast NSW) today. Mason opened with an excellent 8.5 in the semi and that ride proved decisive as Fitzgibbons chased her throughout but was unable to score better than a 5.75.
Ado’s win comes on the back of young 14 year old French surfer Maxime Huscenot (Reunion Island/French Territory) who won the Cadet Cup yesterday defeating the best 16 and under surfers of Australia.
The French assault could also continue in the Junior Men’s (20 years and under) division with Vincent Duvignac who posted an easy round four win over Victoria’s Carl Wright today. Duvignac is through to the quarter finals where he faces a much anticipated clash with Australian and World Junior Champion, Owen Wright (Sth Coast NSW).
Quarter finals through to finals will run tomorrow with Bells Beach the expected location. Other quarter finalists include – Julian Wilson, Mitch Coleborn, Noah Lane and Blake Wilson (all Sunshine Coast) , Victoria’s Tim Stevenson, Central Coast NSW Matt Wilkinson, Tweed Heads Dale Richards, Sydney’s Chris Salisbury, Yamba’s Laurie Towner, Coff’s Harbor’s Heath Joske and Hawaiian Granger Larson all through to the four man quarter’s.
Tomorrow’s final will run around 12 noon.
