Quiksilver Goodwave 2007 presented by Virgin Mobile: Entries Closing soon….
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 January, 2007 : - - The countdown has started for the entries into the 2007 Quiksilver Goodwave, the most popular event on the South African surfing calendar. The only way into the event is through the website, and the cut-off date for entries is the end of January. That leaves all possible entrants just a few days to get their entries and motivations in.
So if you're keen on having a go at winning the R60,000 first prize you'd best tap in your entry on-line at goodwave.co.za for a shot at getting into this prestigious event. The 32 invited surfers will be made known on the first of February on the website. There have already been some big names who have put their hands up for a place in the event, including former winners Warwick Wright and Simon Nicholson, as well as 2006 WCT campaigner David Weare. Simon, who won the event in 2004, is in serious training for this year’s event. “I’ve been training seriously, getting geared up for the event,” said an excited Simon.
“I’ve been doing a beach training program down at Battery Beach and am determined to do better than 2005. I’m not going to give Wok an easy time.” With R126,500 total prize money, there’s bound to be some serious training and determination surrounding the event. Another surfer who is looking for a result is Jason Ribbink. Jason, who has been out the water for a few months and has been in serious rehab and training, is keen on reclaiming some glory at his home break New Pier.
The event is sanctioned by SSA, and will utilise surfcasting by Spike from wavescape.co.za. Spike and his team will be scouring the charts and the buoy readings for any possible heads up on the event going. The daily surf report also kicks in again on the first February, so if you want to know what the waves are like at the New Pier check out the report on the website. The waiting period for the event runs for 11 months of the year and although the best months at the New Pier are February to May, in 2005 the event only ran in November as it produced one of the best days of the year at the New Pier. If you want to be kept in the loop as to the event, either by email, sms, or both, log onto the site and register on the 'lemme know when it goes' link at: goodwave.co.za for regular electronic updates and heads up calls.
