Volcom Stone's Starfish Surf Series - River Jetties, Huntington Beach, CA 

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 February, 2007 : - - The Starfish finale for 06/07 VQS tour went down this past weekend at River Jetties in Huntington Beach. It was time to see who would qualify for the top five spots from each divisions for an invite to the $100,000.00 VQS Championship in May 2007. The Artic south wind blew all day, but the surf kept its shape as the competitors braved the conditions and threw down for those qualifying spots. Here's what went down: 
 
Newcomer Dovyn Hartnett ripped through the pack and took charge of the girls division in the beginning. Starfish vets, Ashley Woody and Marissa Shaw stepped up to the competition as they dominated the final. Ashley had it in the bag, but it was Marissa last wave that claimed her the victory. Marissa took the win along with the Girls Season Champs title.

She grabbed a sweet ass first place Girls trophy, a Sector 9 skate deck, plus a Vestal watch and a grip of other goods. Rounding out the final was Dovyn Hartnett, Shelby Detmer, Page Ortiz and Annissa Galindo. 
 
In the Grom division Andrew Doheny was on his game, from lip slides to airs and even barrels he was unstoppable. The Rowe brothers are always a threat for the win, but only Nick would make the final and have to settle of second place. However, Nick ended up with enough overall points and was crowded the Starfish Grom Season champ.

Victor Done and Cameron Clark put in a great effort, but both would come up short. Andrew Doheny slayed the final and was rewarded the win with a awesome electric guitar kit, first place trophy, Zoo York deck, and Volcom backpack stuffed full of goods. 
 
The entire gang of top rated Juniors showed up for the season final, which made for a tight race to crown the champ. Dane Zahn was the current leader with Josh Hromin and Keetin Devine close on his tail. Josh would end up in sixth place, but still qualified for the champs. Keetin Devine would win the contest and the season by annihilating his first wave and beat Dane Zahn in the final.

He took home H20 Audio Ipod housing, a Santa Cruz skate deck and the backpack of other goods. Rounding out the final in a respectable second was Dane Zahn, Reed Zackman, Bryan Doheny, Josh Hromin and Aaron Jessee. 
  
The Pro-Am was bit different this event with most of the Season Champs contendors all having bad heats and loosing out early. Dave Post would be the only top five still left, but he would also not make the final, however still earning a qualifying spot to the champs.

It was the newcomers Macy Mullen, Robert Patterson and Micah Byrne who attacked the field. Josh Hoyer made the final and took the season title with his final appearance but he would also come short of the event win. Micah Byrne had a great heat with two high scores which earned him the $500.00 cash for his effort and a spot in the $100,000.00 VQS* Championship.
