Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 February, 2007 : - - A Press Conference that took place today at the legendary Waikiki Surf Club, officially launched the Reef Classic Latin Pro Perú, ALAS Latin Tour third stage. A six stars event that will deliver 17.000 dollars in cash prizes and 6.000 rating points, starting next Friday at Punta Rocas waves.

Latin American Surfing Association Vice President, Karin Sierralta, Peruvian Surfing Federation, Eduardo Cáceres, Reef Representative for Peru, Gustavo Reategui, Movistar Representative, Fernando Messa, Waikiki Club President, Alberto Figari, along with recognized Peruvian surfers Javier Swayne and Magoo de la Rosa, gave their speech and answered the press questions, presenting and honoring the event.           

More than 120 surfers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Venezuela, Panama, Uruguay and of course, Peru, will be fighting for the event title on the Open Pro, Pro Junior, Ladies and Longboard division.

With two stages already held, Open Pro rating leader is the Chilean Diego Medina, who won at Mar del Plata and placed 17 th at Chile. On the Ladies side, Julia Christian victory at the Latin Girls held two weeks ago at San Bartolo, placed her on the top of the ranking. Francisco Bellorin from Venezuela is the current Pro Junior ratings leader, while Argentinean Martín Pérez have a strong lead on the Longboard, with two first places.

Checklist

-Water is warm, no wetsuits are needed.

-The Gillete Expression Session, will be held on Sunday.

-Peruvian Currency is the Sol, 3,20 soles are equal to one dollar.  

-There´s also a great variety of restaurants, with a majority of them offering the visitants favorite: Ceviche.

-The Reef Classic Latin Pro Peru was held for the first time in history in 2005, Venezuelan Pedro Rangel won the event.

-The classic Miss Reef Bikini Open will be held on Saturday afternoon, the best "body shape" is going to be reguarded with 1.000 dollars.

- Legendary Punta Rocas it´s mainly a rights pointbreak that held waves from 2 to 15 feets. It´s located 42 km south of Peru´s capital, Lima.  

-Punta Rocas is considered one of the most classics wave, if we talk about surf competition. In 1965 the World Championships were held there, with Peruvian Felipe Pomar giving the first World Title to Latin America.

After that contest the "Campeonato Internacional de Punta Rocas" became a classic, having on it heat sheets, important names as Gerry Lopez, Barry Kanaiapuni, Larry Bertleman and Buttons Kailuhiokalani, among others.

-The last international event held at Punta Rocas were the Panamerican Surfing Games, in January of 2006. The Games were won by Brazil, with Peru placing close in second.

-There´s a great variety of accommodations at Punta Negra and in neighbor coastal city of Punta Hermosa in price and quality. It is possible to stay in a hostel from 5 dollars a day to hotels way expensive.
