Pro Junior Round 2, Open Pro second, third and part of the fourth and Ladies round one took place today. The level increased with the heats progress, for some of the surfers it was an exhaustive day, they had to hit the water for three times.
One of those surfers was the one that did the day highest combined score, Brazilian Alardreson Martins who surfed fast and radical to score 15.66 on his second round heat and kept it going, making it through the third round in first and the fourth in second. And just like in the past stage at Chile, he made it to the last day of competition, getting closer to the title.
"I'm so happy to make it through this heat, the waves are kind of tough to find, you have make a good wave selection and do what is necessary to hit the critical section and gain points. On my last heat my rival -Jean Carlo Schaffer- found a great wave and did the score to stay in first. Now I'm going to give it all to try to win another contest," said Martins once he was out of the water, after he placed second to Venezuelan Schaffer and beating the Peruvian Guillermo González.
Meanwhile the day and contest day best wave single score was made by another surfer that is coming from the first round, Pro Junior South American Runner Up, Matías Mulanovich from Peru, scored 9.17 after landing a floater and executing two strong tail slides off the lips to beat, with a combined score of 15.57, his fellow country man Gabriel Aramburu -second- and the tico Luis Vindas -third-.
Mulanovich then made it through to the fifth round, beating Diego Cadena from México -second- and Carlos Goncalves from Ecuador -third-. The Peruvian said after his heat was over: "I'm at home, used to this kind of waves, but really, this isn't Punta Rocas, here the waves are big and long. This way the luck factor is preponderant.
I was lucky to find my waves on my heat and make it through." About his great wave Mulanovich said: "It was a wave that when I was paddling I didn't knew if was going to open or not, but it ended up great, I did those good maneuvers, it was a nice wave, it could be great if all the waves were like that."
Another surfer that comes from the first round, surfed great today and now is in the fifth round is the Porto Rican Josie Graves, who did a combined score of 14.57 to beat Diego Naranjo from Costa Rica -second- and Francisco Bellorin from Venezuela -third-. The "boricua" said after his heat: "It was a long day, Red Bull gave me the strength, but it worst it because I did it pretty good.
I´m so happy, I feel confident, I like the waves, it isn't cold at all, everything is great, no complains. Peru is great, I want to come back here and stay longer, the waves are good, the food is good and the people is amazing." Along with Martins, Mulanovich, Graves, Naranjo, Cadena and Schaffer, already on the fifht round are Gary Saavedra from Panama and Gabriel Aramburu from Peru.
