Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 February, 2007 : - - Peruvian Sebastián Alarcón won the Reef Classic Latin Pro Perú 2007, Latin Tour third stage that ended on another day with Punta Rocas breaking with three to four feet perfect waves. Alarcón beat Brazilian Alardreson Martins on an exciting final that had a final score of 13.76 versus 13.33.

The final heat started with the Brazilian gaining the leadership, scoring a 5.67 and a 6.83, after he rode two fast rights he strongly attacked. Alarcón began with a 5.67 and stayed needing a 6.9 that he reached on the middle of the heat when he filled with seven maneuvers on set wave, scoring 7.83. Later he improved his second best ride with a 6.03. The Brazilian stayed in need of 7.03 for the last eight minutes. With four minutes remaining he got a good right that was also packed with good moves and received 6.5 from the judges, not enough to re gain the lead.

The crowd vibrated on the last minutes and when the horn sounded, a scream saying "¡Go Peru!" was enough to start a big round of applauses that meant the Alarcón victory. The local raised his arms on the wave he used to get out of the water and was carried in arms by his fellows. With the victory, the Peruvian gained the rating leadership.

After he got out of the fancy crowd, the Peruvian said: "The contest was more than exciting, I think that yesterday I surfed bad and only made it through thanks to God. Today I came here wanting to do the things good and everything came out fine. ¡Thank God that gave me the waves! The Brazilian was ripping, now a days everybody have the level to win, but today was my day and I´m so happy for that".

About his rating leadership, Sebastián said: "Now the toughest part is about to come, to deffemd the leadership, I think that getting there with three stages it´s kind of easy, everybody wants to win and now they´re going to be trying to bite me, I know. It´s the first time I have the leadership, I hope to be as matture to face the upcoming challenges."

Meanwhile, the Brazilian Alardreson Martins, who comes from a great victory in Chile last weekend, achieved an amazing second place that also gives him the second place on the Latin Tour ratings.

"The heat was difficult, I did a good wave selection but I wasn´t able to get the one I needed to win. The conditions weren´t wasy to find a good ride and my adversary found the right one and he performed well, that´s why he ended being the Champion; he surfs really good and is an experienced surfer.

I´m feeling good because God is good for my life, because I was there always praying, asking Him to make the final and He gave me that. All the glory, all he honor is for him. Now I´m second on the ratings and I´m going with everything, the contest has just begun, this is only the beginning."

Matías Mulanovich from Peru and the Current Latin Tour Champion, Martín Passeri from Argentina placed third. Mulanovich lost against his fellow country man Sebastián Alarcón, meanwhile Passeri lost against Alardreson Martins.

Passeri said after his heat: "I think that the strategy I used was OK because Alardreson didn´t started well the heat, but then he scored some good rides, I was needing more than a 6.00 that I knew I could get on a set wave, but when it came I did one maneuver and couldn´t find the space to make another, anyway a third on a six stars event is a great result".

The Pro Junior division was dominated by the Argentinean Leandro Usuna, "Lele" as he´s also known, did a great wave approach, printing clean lines on the perfect Punta Rocas waves. Two times Latin American Junior Champ, Manuel Selman from Chile placed scond, José Manuel Trujillo from Mexico placed third and Peruvian Piero Delucchi placed fourth.

"The contest was really fun, I love this country, not only because of the people but also for the amazing waves it has. I was focused for this contest, I felt great, I think my surfing was working for this type of waves, I was lucky and I surfed well. On the Open Pro I stayed on the fifth round but in the Pro Junior I won and that´s why I´m more than proud and happy to be here", commented Usuna once out of the water.

The Longboard division was won for the third consecutive time by the Argentinean Martín Pérez that now have a strong ratings lead. Coming from a win at his house and then a win in Chile, Pérez did more than 3.000 kilometers on a bus to reach the Punta Rocas waves and win the contest. Peruvian Tamil Martino from Perú placed second, Osvaldo Borbor from Ecuador placed third and Domingo Pianezzi also from Peru placed fourth.

Analí Gómez from Peru was the winner of the Ladies division, making a great backside approeach the local showed why she´s the World Pro Junior Surfing Championship Runner-Up and left in second the Argentinean Agostina Pellizari and in third and fourth her fellow country women Alexia Jeri and Valeria Solé respectively.

Before the finals, the Gillete Tow at Airshow took place, it was the first time in the Peruvian history that an airshow takes place with the help of Jet skies for them to get more speed. Nine surfers from seven countries competed and the winner was Gabriel Aramburu who did a high Alley Oop and won 500 dollars and a surfboard.
