    Noosa Festival of Surfing 2007
    presented by Global surf Industries

    5 - 11 March 2007

Coast surfers target three in a row at Noosa Festival of Surfing 2007

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 March, 2007 : - - The Sunshine Coast’s Grant Thomas (M’Dore) and Matt Cuddihy (Noosa Heads) head into next week’s Noosa Festival of Surfing as clear favourites as they chase their third consecutive titles! Thomas who will contest the ASP Australasia Rated Odyssey 20/20 6 Star Men’s Pro is right on track to achieve a result only ever attained once before in the event’s fifteen year history.

The man who holds that claim to fame is none other than Hawaii’s Bonga Perkins, who recently scored a perfect ten point ride at the Monster Energy Drink Pro held in flawless 10foot waves at Pipeline, where he won the Expression Session.

Bonga and Thomas are great mates and needless to say the taunting has already begun ahead of schedule! “You can tell Grant I am coming over to make sure he doesn’t equal my record”, said a laughing Perkins. Thomas too has joined in with his own style of reply, “Bonga who?” said Grant, “I thought he was in the over thirties”, added Thomas.

Meantime, opting for the quiet approach, Matt Cuddihy is staring down the barrel of possibly his third Golden Breed Noserider title. The smooth surfing natural foot likes to let his surfing do the talking and if past results are anything to go by……..he speaks very well. Cuddihy claimed back to back victories in 2005, 2006 and will be over the moon with the expected increase in swell size over the next week.

Matt certainly won’t have it all his way in the Golden Breed Noserider, good friend and dual National Champion Harrison Roach (attached photo) is waiting in the wings and seems all set to pounce in an effort to make amends after failing to reach his potential at the Nationals in Yallinup WA last year.

Japan’s Go Isakawa was a real crowd favourite last year and has confirmed as a starter in 2007. The Noosa Festival of Surfing 2007 is presented by Global Surf Industries/Sunshine Coast Daily. The week long celebration of surfing begins Monday 5th March with the Opening ceremony @ 4pm - First Point Noosa.

Noosa Festival of Surfing supporting partners includes: Global Surf Industries, Sunshine Coast Daily, Queensland Events, Tourism Noosa, Noosa Council, ASP Australasia, Coastalwatch, Surfing Australia
