Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 March, 2007 : - - The 2007 Latin Tour will be doing it fourth stop at Montañita, Ecuador´s legendary wave, from the 20th until the 24 of March, when the Reef Classic Latin Pro Montañita will take place. A contest that for the first time in the Latin Tour history will have a waiting period.
More than 80 surfers from twelve countries will be fighting for 17.000 dollars in cash prizes and 6.000 rating points that will be fundamental for this year Latin Champ decision that started in Argentina and then continued at Chile and Peru and now lands at Ecuador.
With three stages already held, the Peruvian Sebastián Alarcón is on the top of the ratings, with Brazilian Alardreson Martins close to him in second, after he won at Chile and got second in Peru. In third we have the current Latin Champ, Martín Passeri from Argentina.
The event Organizer, Jorge "Manino" Andant, commented about the upcoming contest: "It is a honor for Montañita and Ecuador to receive the Latin American Tour and it example of gathering and social development, including our continent biggest surfing stars. They will bring an enormous impulse for the Ecuadorian surfing and the tourism of Montañita. Welcome Latin Brothers, honorable guests of our beaches."
As a special dressing, for what is going to be an amazing surfing show, the forecast for the five days contest is saying that Montañita will be as good as it can get, with two huge swells hitting the coastline during the waiting period days.
Checklist
-The currency in Ecuador is the dollar.
-El colorful little town of Montañita, is located north to the Guayas state, two hours and a half from Guayaquil.
-The distance between Guayaquil and Montañita is aproximatley 200 hilometers. If you do it by bus would take four hours. The organizers setted up cars with drivers from 80 dollars to make the transportation from the airport to your hotel in Montañita. To have get a car, call Fast Car from the Guayaquil airoprt to 2823333. It is important to bring your own soft racks.
The cheapest option is going by bus. To do this, you should take a cab from the airport to the "Terminal Terrestre de Guayaquil" -that will cost five dollars- from there take a CLP bus to Montañita, that will also cost five dollars -non stop bus depart from Guayaquil at 0500, 1300 and 1700-.
If you don´t get there on time, you will be able to get Montañita with one stop at Santa Elena. Montañita is a un pointbreak of perfect long rights that break over a coral reef. The waves break perfect from 2 to 15 feet. Bigger boards are recommended if the swell is big. There´re lots of places to stay at Montañita. Anyway the organizers arranged cheapest options for all the competitors. The places are:

About the Latin American Surfing Association The Latin American Surfing Association -ALAS- was founded on the year 2000 with the main goal of promoting the sport of surfing in Latin America, creating an internal tour to act as a platform of professional competition for the growing number of surfers in our countries. On 2002 ALAS held for the first time in history a sequence of contest that consecrated the first Latin American Pro Surfing Champion; the Latin Tour continued and grew with the years, reaching the coasts of twelve Latin American countries.
Now a day, ALAS control and execute professional surfing contests among all over Latin America, defining with this the Latin Champions on the Open Pro, Pro Junior, Ladies and Longboard divisions.
