Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 March, 2007 : - - With absolutely perfect six-feet tubular waves breaking at the classical Montaņita peak, the Reef Classic Latin Pro, fourth event of the Latin Tour, began today.   It distributes 17,000 dollar in prizes and 6,000 valuable points for the 2007 Latin ranking.   The first two rounds of the Open Pro division were carried out today, in another day where the winner was Latin American surfing.

The best surfers from fourteen brother countries were present at the legendary Equatorian wave: Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador and the host country, Ecuador.

It was Argentinean-born Agustín Bollini's day.   He felt at home, and went through his two heats in first place, also marking the two best scores of the day, the highest combined score -16.33- and the best single-wave - 9.83- in which "Che" completed a clean tube in a good-sized wave that brought cheers from the spectators.

The local athlete, Carlos Goncalvez, scored a good combined score in his first-round heat, making a good impression with the judges, that gave him a sum of 14.44 for his two best waves.   Having recently arrived from Hawaii, Goncalvez surfed cleanly and radically during the two heat he surfed today, showing that his level is rising.   He also made it through his second round heat in first place.

The local presence was reinforced by the power-surfer Eusebio Rodríguez, who showed great sportsmanship, going by his first series in first place, establishing the fourth highest average of the day   - 13.97, in spite of having broken his board when there where five minutes left of his heat.

Costa Rican Gilberth Brown kept showing the great season he's having, letting everybody know why he's considered one of the best "tico" and Latin Surfers. He competed well in his two heats and is now seeded on the third round where he will face Venezuelans David Díaz and Rugby Colmenares.

Precisely Colmenares also had an amazing performance making it through round one and two today. The Venezuelan showed the great moment he's going through, not only during the competition but also in the free surf session, in which he was a standout along the crowded spot.

Colombia re appeared on the Latin Tour, with two competitors representing the country. The luck wasn't on their side today so they failed to make it through the firsts rounds.   Anyway, Colombians showed that they're eager to go ahead and keep evolving in their surfing.

Dylan Southworth and Angelo Lozano from Mexico, Agustín Bollini and Leandro Usuna from Argentina, Guillermo Satt from Chile and Francisco Bellorin from Venezuela, are the only Pro Juniors competing at the Open Pro, showing that they can face the best Latin surfers. The six of them are already on the third round.

It is expected that the competition will continue tomorrow, but the last words depend on the waves, so tomorrow at 8:00 am -local time- we will know if the contest is going to continue or not. The Reef Classic Latin Pro Montaņita is possible thanks to the support of Sumbawa Surf Shop, V220 Energetic Drink, Speed Stick Glacial Power Deodorant and Baja Montaņita Hotel.

About the Latin American Surfing Association
The Latin American Surfing Association -ALAS- was founded in the year 2000 with the objective of promoting surfing in Latin America and creating an internal tour to act as a professional competition platform for the growing number of surfers in our countries.  In 2002 ALAS held a sequence of championships for the first time in history that consecrated the first Latin American Pro Surfing Champion.

The Latin Tour continued and grew with the years, reaching the coasts of twelve Latin American countries. Nowadays, ALAS controls and organizes professional surfing championships throughout Latin America, thus defining the Open Pro, Pro Junior, Ladies and Longboard division Latin champions.
