Greg Long wins Billabong XXL ‘Biggest Wave of the Year’ at Dungeons in Cape Town
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 April, 2007 : - - Dungeons, the open ocean reef under the towering cliffs of the Sentinel at the entrance to Hout Bay on the Cape Peninsula, produced the biggest wave ridden anywhere in the world over the past 12 months.
This was confirmed when a ride by renowned big wave charger Greg Long from San Clemente, California was awarded the Billabong XXL ‘Biggest Wave of the Year’ prize for a wave he rode at Dungeons on 30 July 2006. The face of the wave was more than 20 metres (65 foot) in height
Long pocketed the prize of US $15 000 (approx R105 000) ahead of four other finalists, including Andrew Marr from Kommetjie in Cape Town, whose ride on the same day was also nominated for the Ride of the Year category.

Californian Ken ‘Skindog’ Collins (Santa Cruz) won the premier Billabong XXL ‘Ride of the Year’ category and R350 000 for an epic tube ride at Puerto Escondido off the coast of Mexico. The ride also earned Collins the Monster Tube Award and another R35 000.
Marr was runner-up in the Ride of the Year category for the wave he rode at Dungeons.
