Hotdoggers League 2 goes off at Saunton

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 April, 2007 : - - The Hotdoggers Longboard Surf Club second league event of 2007 ran smoothly at Saunton beach on Sunday the 22nd of April. Despite the small surf all competitors put on a great show of talent with some of the top ‘Open’ and ‘Masters’ category surfers in particular showing superb nose riding skill in the knee high waves.

In the ‘Open’ event it was great to see the final dominated by young surfers who are showing themselves as the next generation of talented British Longboarders. It was particularly satisfying to see 18 year old Brendon Muir surfing exceptionally well and pulling off some long hang fives. The open was however won once again by the seemingly impossible to beat 17 year old Ben Haworth who closely beat his friend OJ Freshwater into second.

The ‘ladies’ the final was won convincingly by Juliet Marlowe who has just returned from a three month trip to Australia. Surfing every day in warm water and quality waves at Noosa Heads has really fine tuned Jules’s surfing and she should look forward to the British Championships with relish and a real opportunity to regain her British Title (no pressure Jules)!!

Once again Hazel Ilett from South Wales worked hard and showed real promise taking a respectable second place in only her second ever contest. The Masters event was won by evergreen Eric Davies. In the juniors Callum Clark surfed a superb final to take his first ever top placing. Well done to Callum as there are sure to be many more wins.

The clubs next event takes place on Sunday the 29th April for non sponsored surfers and those who haven’t been in an Open or Masters final this year with the event taking place at Saunton Beach starting at 8.30am.
