Nahoon Reef impressive on Day One of the 2007 O'Neill SA Open of Surfing
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 April, 2007 : - - Nahoon Reef produced some impressive 6 foot surf on the first day of competition in the O'Neill SA Open of Surfing, giving surfers in the first rounds of the Men's Division of the 4A rated Surfing South Africa PST event an opportunity to post some impressive scores.
Apart from the fact that SA Champion and third seed Quintin Jones of Cape Town did not arrive for his heat there were no upsets as the top 16 surfers made their way into the quarter finals.
Local surfer Tyrell Johnson, 2005 SA Open champion Dylan Stone and fellow PE surfer Granville West, O'Neill wildcard Luke Christie Smith of Kommetjie, Manfred Adrio and Gary van Wieringen of Durban, Frankie Oberholzer of Warner Beach and Shane Thorne of the Bluff all won their second round heats to advance.
Defending champion Matthew Kruger of Durban, top seed Josh Redman of Umbilo, Rudy Palmboom of the Bluff, Brandon Roberts of Sun Valley and East London surfers Devyn Mattheys, Simon Fish, Wayne Monk and Tremaiyne Wilken will join them in the quarters courtesy of their second place finishes in Round two
Gale force winds and difficult surf are expected to make conditions tough for the first rounds of the Pro Junior and Women's Divisions which are scheduled to take place on Day two of the event. The O'Neill SA open of Surfing ends at Nahoon Reef at about midday on Sunday April 29.
