Liftoff for Kustom Space Kadets Means First Entry is In

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 June, 2007 : - -  Gold Coast --  The entry window is open and the mission is officially under way to capture the most epic punt in the annual Kustom Space Kadets aerial surfing competition and the first entry is in!. From June 1 through to September 28, both the surfer who boosts the biggest air and the mate that captures it all on camera or video stand to win big for their role in the evolution of aerial surfing.

Surf footwear brand Kustom has teamed with Australian Surfing Life magazine, Hawaiian Airlines, MTV Australia and Panasonic to help you push surfing to new highs. The winning surfer will receive a $10,000 cash prize from Kustom and tickets to Hawaii courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines, while the sharp shooter who captures the move will receive $3000 cash, air tickets to Hawaii and a Panasonic video camera.

Kustom marketing manager Brad Bricknell said the opening of the event window was generating a buzz among the growing Australian and New Zealand aerial surfing communities. “The fact you can surfing anywhere in the world at any time during the window makes Kustom Space Kadets a unique format and has all of the groms frothing,” said Bricknell.

“Last year’s winners – surfer Dion Agius and surfer/videographer Adam Bennetts – were from Queensland but their winning entry was from a beach break in Bali. “So wherever you go surfing just punt the air, capture it on film and send it in to ASL during the competition window and both of you could be cashed up and on a plane to Hawaii later this year.”

Entrants can be jetski assisted or strapped in to their board, but the degree of difficulty will be considered in the final judging. The surfer must also land the manoeuvre to be eligible for the top prize. Updates on the competition will be published in ASL and on their website.
