Lizzard Tag Series event #1 to hit Cape Town next weekend
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 July, 2007 : - - International surf company, Lizzard, is launching their first of three Tag Series events next weekend. The first event will be held at the Strand beach in Cape Town on the Sat and Sun 28/29 July.
All boys and girls U/12, U/14 and U/16 are welcome to enter and these include all surfers from a novice to an advanced level. ‘Lizzard have opted for the tag series format, because it takes the pressure off the individual competitive side of surfing.
It allows kids who are intimidated by competitive surfing to surf in a team, and gives them the opportunity to still experience the competitive side of surfing but in a team format which is fun and not so demanding on each individual’, says the event organizer, Gavin Roberts.
The tag rules will be explained at the event, and the teams will consist of 5 surfers of which at least one must be a girl. Once the entries are in, the respective Provincial Presidents will compile the teams to make it easier on the kids when entering and the teams can be chosen fairly, so will include similar numbers of novices and advanced surfers.
There is prize money up for grabs to the finalists, the winning team will take home R2000, second will take R1000, third R750 and fourth R500. By dividing the teams up, this will give the kids entering the opportunity to make new friends at the event and not the best surfer will walk away with the prize money as usual.
‘It is up to the whole team to work together for them to win and some novice surfer could be walking away with the prize money with the rest of his winning team which is something different and which we feel is really cool for a change’, says Robin de Kock, President of Surfing South Africa.
