Universal Super Molded Model Citizens at La Volcom Poste
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 August, 2007 : - - This past weekend, on Saturday the 4th of August, the inauguration of Volcom Europe's equivalent of Boathouse/Roadhouse took place. Aptly named "La Poste" since the building used to be a combo of a post office/warehouse, and it is just half a mile up the street from the Volcom European HQ in Anglet, France.
To mark the opening and celebrate with us, Volcom Team Surfer and Artist Shawn "Barney" Barron flew over from Santa Cruz, California to display his "Universal Super Molded Model Citizens" art show... Unfortunately, a large portion of his art/molded mannequins was shipped to Tennessee instead, but luckily Volcom Artist Dashenka Prochazka happened to be in town and was more than willing to step in with some of her art pieces to save the day.
So, after a few final last minute touches, the crowds starting rolling in, a few of the girls came straight from the beach, or so it seemed, as they were dressed in a manner that left hardly anything to imagination. How inconsiderate of them!
Anyways, everyone was greeted by a constant flow of free booze, which, within short made the normally silent talkative & the shy social, and as soon as the sun went down, Barney's movie (A documentary of his art and surfing) was projected on the wall above his paintings.
Just as the free booze really started kicking in, a seemingly never-ending supply of free sushi arrived, sobering folks up, if only for an instant. One unlucky individual, with a décolleté one could not help but notice, was clearly not as well-versed in the art of eating with chopsticks as the art of enhancing her cleavage, as she was observed dropping a combo of wasabi and ginger straight at target, not once but twice.
Perhaps not with the same grace as Magic Johnson going for a three- pointer, but definitely with the same precision. After the wasabi sideshow had ended, various musical talents hit the bass, drum kit and guitar make-shift set-up, some more talented than others and entertained us into the wee hours of the nite, when everyone got lost in the nite, somewhere halfway between fete de Bayonne and 1001 rond- points
Stay tuned, as more updates about what's going on at "La Poste" will be dropping soon... A skatepark/ miniramp is soon to be under construction and music/recording rooms and art facilities are being set up. You can see more of Barney’s and Dashenka’s art at: volcom.com. Thanks to Barney, Dashenka, Beach Brother, Rag Doll crew, Suzuki for transport and everybody else who helped out and enjoyed the show except Fed Ex.
