'Doggy Surf Clinics' give pooches a 'leg up' on the competition
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 August, 2007 : - - Del Mar, Ca -- The smell of wet dog fur mingled with ocean air on Saturday, August 4, when surfers and their “best friends” met at Dog Beach in Del Mar for the first of two “Doggy Surf Clinics”. The clinics are being held in preparation for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 2nd annual “Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon”.
The second Doggy Surf Clinic on Saturday, August 11 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Dog Beach (AKA “North Beach”) in Del Mar will welcome new students and returning dogs and owners. Cost for the lessons is $10 per dog, per clinic. San Diego Surf Academy will donate 50% to Helen Woodward Animal Center.
Pat Webber of San Diego Surf Academy and HWAC dog trainer Rob Kuty (owner of San Diego Pet Training) will teach people and their dogs how to surf together. This years Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon on Sunday, September 9 is expected to draw 30 to 40 surfing dogs and more than 100 human surfers.

Reminder: The city of Del Mar actively enforces their parking laws! Pre-registered surfers with I.D. can park in the lot at the southwest corner of the intersection of Via De La Valle/Border Avenue and Camino Del Mar/Coast Highway. If you park along the Coast Highway (Camino Del Mar) be sure to obey parking laws.
