Wright family continue dominance of the Quiksilver State Titles - NSW

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 August, 2007 : - -  Although Owen Wright and Kirby Wright (Culburra) did not surf today, the Wright family continued their dominance on day 4 of the Quiksilver State Titles New South Wales (NSW). In clean 2 to 3 feet waves at Shelly Beach it was the younger members of the Wright family, Michael (Culburra) and Tyler (Culburra) who stole the spot light.

Tyler Wright showed that she is potentially a star of the future after locking in a heat total of 19.40 with her last two waves in the semi final as she progressed into the final of the Under 16 Girls division with Ali Kelly (Avalon Beach), Phillipa Anderson (Merewether) and Rachael Pinsek (Terrigal).

Tyler Wright displayed a clear ability to get the big scores by using a variety of surfing maneuvers on the same wave combined with a textbook flow between each maneuver. “That was a great heat for me, I think the surf actually improved during my heat and allowed a lot more opportunity to score bigger so I was fortunate to take advantage of the better waves for the day.”

The possibility of all four Wright’s winning state junior titles crumbled later in the day when Michael was eliminated in his quarter final. Young Michael was one of the top scoring heat winners in his earlier heat today and is just 10 years of age so he’ll have plenty of time to redeem today’s quarter final elimination! Under 14 Boy’s to advance to the semi finals included Zac Scott, Tylah Hutchinson, Matt Banting, Joshua Hay, Soli Bailey and Jesse Horner.

Other action saw the Under 14 Girls division with impressive heat wins from Ellie Jean Coffey (Crescent Head), Sarah Kokkin (Newcastle) and Kirsten Ogden (North Coast). Finals across all divisions will run tomorrow morning and this years Quiksilver State Title – NSW champions across 14, 16 and 18 aged divisions will be crowned by early afternoon.
