Damien Hobgood Reinjures Knee & Withdraws From Next Two WCT Events
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 September, 2007 : - - Damien Hobgood, the current #6 ASP World Championship Tour surfer, has withdrawn from next week's WCT Boost Mobile Pro tournament in California and the folowing WCT event slated for later this month in France after reinjuring his left knee this past weekend. Hobgood, 28, of Satellite Beach, Florida, originally injured the knee two months ago while competing in the finals of the Rip Curl Search WCT event in Chile. Damien finished runner-up in that contest and propelled himself to number two in the world rankings. Despite an injury-related lackluster 33rd finish in last month's WCT in South Africa, Damien was still very much in contention for the world title going into next week's contest. "It's both frustrating and disappointing to have this kind of setback," Damien remarked. "I've had some good results and was feeling really confident about my surfing. At this point, there is little I can do other than rest the knee for a couple of months and look ahead to the latter part of the season." "Damien was indeed having a great season," commented Rabbit Bartholomew, former world champion and current President of ASP International. "It is truly a cruel blow to his title aspirations and definitely takes an element away from the '07 title race." www.hobgoods.com
