, 6 September, 2007 : - - The ALAS Latin & Caribbean Tour Ixtapa Zihuatanejo 2007 Championship began today with a ceremony that reunited important national authorities like the President Municipal Lic. Blanco Silvano Deaquino, the Director of Sport of the Guerrero State Carlos Reyes Paris, the Manager of Tourism Sol y Playa Lic.

Napoleón Guerrera, the Director of the Office of Conventions and visitors Lic. Jose Luis Arriaga, whom along with the ALAS`s president Mr. Antonio Sotillo gave by inaugurated the event with a protocol ceremony.

This is the first time that the Latin American Surf Tour ALAS arrives into Mexico in an event of six stars that will distribute to USD 17.000.00 dollars. Ixtapa Zihuatanejo becomes a new shutdown from the Tour offering The Palmar`s waves in the point of Las Escolleras. During three days more Ixtapa will be full of action with the best surfer from 12 countries of all Latin America.

Today from 10am began the first qualifying round of the Open category. The competitors made shine their surfing in waves of small size but with a force that got break two Mexican tables of the surfers Rutherford and Moncada. The Mexican hosts were the one who carried out this fist day. More than 55 Mexicans competed to advance in the competition and to face against the best ones of the region.

The fanatics of surf could live the first day of competition on line. ALAS is making the transmission of the competition results in Mexico, minute by minute, heat by heat by clicking here. Tomorrow the competition begins at 9am with second and third round Open, in this last round will entered into competition the surfers known as the "seeding". They are the eight best ones of the 2006 and the eight best ones of what it goes of present year 2007. These 16 have assured their position from the third round competition without having to pass through the first qualifying rounds. So the spectacle is just beginning.

The Latin American Surf Association
The Latin American Surf Association - ALAS was founded in the year 2000 with the purpose of promoting surfing in Latin America and creating a circuit at continental level that serves like platform of professional competition for the increase amount of surfers in our countries.

In the year 2002 ALAS made for the first time in history a series of events that consecrated the first Latin American Champion of Surf; the Latin American Surf Circuit continued and grew throughout the years, holding fast in the coasts of twelve countries of Latin America. Today, ALAS controls and executes professional championships in the Latin American level, defining the Latin Champions in the Open Pro, Pro Junior, Woman and Longboard categories.
