    Successful Peugeot SA Masters Cup completed in 4-5 foot offshore surf at St Mikes

    Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 September, 2007 : - - Decent conditions on all three days of competition were a feature of the inaugural Peugeot SA Masters Cup, which began Friday September 14, was completed in good four to five foot offshore surf at St Michaels on Sea on the KZN South Coast, Sunday September 16.

    Rob Moore Boyle of Westville took honours in the Masters (Over 35) division, beating Carl Roux of Durban North into second place. Gary Maisch of Umzumbe was third and Andre Malherbe of East London took fourth spot.

    In the Grandmasters (Over 40) division 2007 SA Masters team captain Craig Sims of Ballito won all his heats including the final and was one of the standout surfers at the event. He achieved his clean sweep by beating Craig Daniel of the Bluff, Steven Millington of Cowies Hill and David Malherbe of East London in the final of this division.

    In January Chris Knutsen of Umhlanga Rocks won the World Title in the Kahunas division (Over 45) at the ISA World Championships in Puerto Rico and on Sunday he added the Peugeot Cup title to his list of accolades when he beat Judge Olivier of Berea into second with Marc Wright of Durban ending third and Rudy Palmboom of the Bluff taking fourth place.

    The Grand Kahunas (Over 50) title went the way of Brian Heathcote of East London who beat Mike Larmont of Durban into second place. Hugh Thompson of Durban was fourth and South Coast legend Frikkie Van den Berg secured fourth place. Three Port Shepstone girls contested the Women's final with ex World Championship Tour surfer Heather Clark taking the crown ahead of Kay Holt and Candi Cole.

    The finalists in all five divisions at the 2007 Peugeot SA Masters Cup shared R9000 in prize-money. The 2007 Peugeot SA Masters Cup was presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted by Southern KZN Surfing Association.
